I was standing in an airport the other day. Nothing unusual about that. People moving. Bags rolling. Announcements echoing overhead. The quiet chaos of travel. But then something shifted. I stopped. Not physically, I was already standing still, but internally. I took a breath. Just one conscious breath. And instead of thinking about where I was going, what time it was, or what I needed to do next…I just noticed. And that’s when I saw it.
Everyone around me seemed to speed up. Not literally. The pace of the airport hadn’t changed. But the way I was seeing it had. People were walking quickly, but not with awareness, more like they were being carried by something. Their heads slightly down. Eyes unfocused. Moving past each other, not with each other.
No connection. No presence. Just motion. It felt like watching a current of thought playing out in human form. And the strangest part? Just seconds earlier…I was one of them. It’s easy to believe that life is what’s happening around us. But most of the time, we’re not actually experiencing life, we’re experiencing our thoughts about life.
- What happened yesterday.
- What might happen tomorrow.
- What could go wrong.
- What needs to be fixed.
And while all of that is running, something incredibly subtle gets missed…This moment. Not the idea of it. Not a concept. But the living, breathing reality of right now.
Watching the crowd, there was this unspoken feeling of urgency. Everyone had somewhere to be. Something to catch. Something not to miss. But when I really looked…Most of the urgency wasn’t coming from the environment. It was coming from within.
A mind that believes: “I need to get there.” “I’m running late.” “I have to stay ahead.” “I can’t
slow down.” But here’s the quiet truth:
Life isn’t rushing. We are.
When I paused and took that breath, nothing in the airport changed. But everything in my experience did. The noise became just sound. The movement became something almost fluid, like watching waves instead of chaos. People weren’t obstacles anymore. They were just… people. And for a moment, there was no resistance. No urgency. Just presence.
There’s a space that exists between what’s happening… and what we think about what’s happening. Most people never notice it. They go straight from experience → to thought → to reaction. But in that small space, barely noticeable unless you slow down, is something powerful: Choice. Awareness. Peace. That space is where life actually lives.

The space between things. And then ask yourself, gently: “Am I here… or am I in my thoughts?” No need to force anything. Just notice. That’s enough.
The airport didn’t change today. But for a moment…I did. Or maybe more accurately, I stopped being lost in in the chaos of my thoughts and found what actually is.
I didn’t become someone new…I just paused the movement long enough to live in the moment.
